Description

Have you ever wished you could be a fly on the wall in another ancestrally minded home to see what they make for the week, how they prep their food, what they are actually making day in and day out?

Now, you can! In this unprecedented Treasury of Ancestral Menus, you will visit 21 homes around the globe and walk into their kitchens and sit at their tables, experiencing what they are serving their families for meals every day. You will experience the sometimes repetitive and humble nature of truly home-cooked menus, the colorful bursts of holiday and feast day joy, and the transitional nature of homes moving away from the dominant processed-food culture into the locally sourced ancestral food way.

This 73-page book of complete menus was written by our listening community – twenty-one contributors in all, including Alison and Andrea – each documenting a week of meals enjoyed in their home. You will get to read a range of menus, from solo personal menus and empty-nester menus up to feeding families of four, five, six or more children! They documented their meals, sent the menus to us, and we are sharing them with you today.

This book is different from all our other books. It is a completely community-driven effort and is available for all listeners via donation. Donations support our podcast work, pay the production bills, and keep us on the air, bringing encouragement and support to thousands of homes around the world!

There is nothing else like this book out there! The groundswell of community support for this menu project was immediate and exciting, and we anticipate future volumes as more of our incredible listeners send their menus in. Preparing meals from scratch every day while everyone around you is relying on fast food and processed meals can be an isolating experience, and it is rare to find another friend who you can glean inspiration and ideas from – until now!

It’s one thing to have fifteen different breakfast ideas, but what do people really serve for breakfast every day? How do we fight the overwhelm of information that floods us every day with sparkling content and labor-intensive one-off meal ideas? What about families with kids in school? What about families where the parents work? What about families living far from access to grocery stores, or families that homeschool, or gluten-free or dairy-free homes? By reading real menus and listening to real home cooks who are doing the work every day!

For Alison and Andrea, reading these menus brought a range of emotions (and even some tears), from relief to joy to excitement. We felt safety among friends, support for our kitchens, and love from others in the pursuit of ancestral food. We were inspired, gleaning ideas and new eyes for both foods and schedule adjustments. We felt like we were sitting at the tables of our listeners, experiencing the abundance with them, learning from their collective years of experience and the daily kitchen grind.
